Roam with local knowledge

The Roam App has quickly reinvented the way that we can all find the best places to go in new towns, and connecting customers to businesses on the highs street in new ways that has never been seen before. Andrew Bartlett founded the app as a means to express his passion for the importance of shopping local. He wants to enable others to experience different cultures and places, by providing an easy to use app with endless possibilities and ideas. He’s committed to showing people a better way to travel, and the Roam App incorporates every aspect of his goal.

As well as supplying us all with the greatest offerings and deals and showing us the best spots to go to, the app also has a feature that makes sure our safety is never compromised while we Roam Local. So, we can seize the experience we are having, without having to worry. This part of the app is one that Andrew holds really close to his heart. He is so aware that something as simple as a safety feature on an app could be lifesaving. Growing up in the North of England, Andrew was always hearing of incidents where people that were unfamiliar to the cities around him would fall into the rivers running through them and sadly pass away. Therefore, when Andy ventured into app development and created Roam, he was adamant that there was going to be a safety feature inbuilt on it, not only to keep people safe when they were on nights out but to provide peace of mind for a variety of people while they are in unknown areas.

We all now live in a world where travel has been made so easy and it’s very accessible for a lot of people. Whether students are taking a gap year in Asia, families are holidaying in Europe or friends are touring America, or even simply roaming their local high street, a lot of people are travelling more than ever before nationally and internationally. However, even though travel has been made so much simpler, the safety aspect of travel hasn’t evolved at such a pace. Unfortunately, a small percentage of people still go missing, get into bad situations or never return home from their trips. This is something that Andrew wants to help with, and he also wants to make travel a lot less daunting for everyone. Hence, he is providing the world with technology that can lower the risks of a holiday turning into a nightmare.

Roam Safely 

So, how does the app help to ensure we are all safe whilst we travel? The Roam app is centred around individual needs and creating the best experience for you, no matter where you are. The app uses your current location to tell you the places of interest near you, that will be specifically tailored to you. When you have decided on where you will be going or what you will be doing, the app lets you create a plan. You can then invite people to this plan and create a safe group – which is connected to the apps find my friend function. This means that any member that is for any reason separated from the group or strays from the place you are at will be made noticeable to the other members. There is a specific radius put around the group and the app will monitor the movements of each person. If something doesn’t seem normal and someone strays too far away, each other member in the group will get sent an automatic alert, to let them know. Even if the person’s phone dies, you will still be able to see their last known location, so you know where to start looking for your friend.

This is not only useful to those on holiday together, but it’s also great for people who are going shopping , family day out or even for a few drinks together, even if it is in their home town. It’s also really beneficial for parents to monitor their children’s movements and see where they are. For example, one user has told Andrew that she loves and uses the Roam App a lot. She’s a single mother that swears by the application to keep an eye on her two daughters while they play on the streets behind their house. If they go too far away she will get an alert, will be able to see their location and go to find them. This type of friend-finding technology makes everyone feel like they have a safety net around them and it takes a lot of stress away from always trying to figure out where everyone is at the same time.

Roam is also partnered with the RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution) and the Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS) to spread awareness about safety by rivers, seas and in places that you don’t know that well. In particular, the Roam App is backed by the RNLI in places like York and Durham, to be the bridge of communication between businesses and their customers about safety around the rivers.
