A little history
A Norman market town at the confluence of the Usk and Gavenny rivers, Abergavenny Castle was the site of the infamous massacre of Welsh chieftains by Norman lord Abergavenny in 1175. The town has been a market centre for the Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons since medieval times.
The Abergavenny Food Festival in September is one of Britain's unmissable food events. The Tuesday and Friday markets are excellent for local Welsh produce year-round.
