Explore Alnmouth
Known for
One of England's most perfectly preserved Georgian estuary villages, the golf course (one of England's oldest), the Aln estuary, and a tiny Northumberland village of extraordinary architectural beauty
A little history
Alnmouth was a prosperous Georgian grain port on the Aln estuary. A storm on Christmas Day 1806 diverted the river mouth, destroying the harbour and ending the port trade — perfectly preserving the village in amber. The golf club, founded in 1869, is one of England's oldest.
The village is genuinely beautiful — walk the estuary at low tide. The golf club for a round with extraordinary coastal views. The beach north of the estuary is excellent. The Schooner pub.
