A little history
Braemar sits at 340 metres — one of the highest villages in Britain. The Braemar Gathering has been held since 1832 and the Royal Family has attended annually since Queen Victoria's time. Braemar Castle, built in 1628, was garrisoned by Hanoverian troops after the Jacobite risings.
The Braemar Gathering in September is extraordinary — book tickets months in advance. The Cairngorms walking from the village is spectacular. Braemar Castle for the history. The village in winter snow is magical.
