Explore Campbeltown
Known for
The whisky region (Campbeltown single malts are one of Scotland's five whisky regions), Springbank Distillery (one of the world's most respected), the Mull of Kintyre (the Paul McCartney song), and a remote Argyll town with an extraordinary whisky heritage
A little history
Campbeltown was once the whisky capital of Scotland — at its peak having 34 distilleries. Today only three remain (Springbank, Glen Scotia and Kilkerran) but they constitute their own official Scotch whisky region. Paul McCartney's 1977 hit Mull of Kintyre was written about this area.
Springbank Distillery is one of the most respected in Scotland — tours are essential to book in advance. The Mull of Kintyre lighthouse for the walk and the views. The town's maritime heritage and harbour. Glen Scotia for another whisky perspective.
