Explore Canary Wharf
Known for
One of the world's great financial districts, the HSBC, Barclays and Citigroup towers, the Crossrail Elizabeth line hub, the Museum of London Docklands, and a remarkable transformation from derelict docks to global finance capital
A little history
Canary Wharf was developed from the 1980s on the former West India Docks — once the busiest docks in the world. The transformation from derelict wasteland to global financial centre was one of the most dramatic urban regenerations in British history. One Canada Square was the tallest building in the UK from 1991 to 2010.
The Museum of London Docklands tells the extraordinary story of the docks and the transformation. The new Crossrail station is architecturally stunning. The dock-side walks and gardens are surprisingly beautiful. Jubilee Park for lunch in summer.
