Explore Cirencester
Known for
The Corinium Museum (the finest Roman museum outside London), the largest remaining Roman amphitheatre in Britain, the Market Place, Cirencester Park (the Bathurst Estate), and the unofficial capital of the Cotswolds
A little history
Cirencester — Corinium Dobunnorum — was the second largest Roman city in Britain after London. The Corinium Museum houses one of the finest collections of Roman artefacts in England. The Roman amphitheatre, just outside the town, could hold 8,000 spectators. The town's Market Place has been a trading centre for 2,000 years.
The Corinium Museum is genuinely world-class Roman heritage — don't miss it. The amphitheatre on Cotswold Avenue is free and far less visited than it deserves. The Market Place on Monday and Friday for one of the Cotswolds' finest markets. Cirencester Park for walking.
