Explore Crossmaglen
Known for
The South Armagh GAA heartland (the area has produced more All-Ireland winners per capita than anywhere in Ireland), the Ring of Gullion AONB, the Slieve Gullion mountain, and a County Armagh border town with strong community identity
A little history
Crossmaglen — Cross Mhic Lionnáin in Irish — is the heart of South Armagh, an area sometimes called 'bandit country' during the Troubles due to the strength of IRA activity here. The GAA club is one of the most successful in Ulster. The Ring of Gullion is one of Ireland's finest volcanic landscapes.
Slieve Gullion Forest Park is excellent — the summit lake is extraordinary and the views across the Ring of Gullion are outstanding. The GAA pitch is the social heart of the community. The border town character is unique.
