A little history
Cupar has been the county town of Fife since medieval times, despite being smaller than many of the towns it administers. The town's market cross, tolbooth and mercat cross survive from its medieval heyday. Hill of Tarvit Mansion, built for a jute merchant in 1906, houses a fine art collection.
Hill of Tarvit Mansion is excellent — the garden and the collection are both outstanding. Scotstarvit Tower nearby for the views. The Howe of Fife cycling is beautiful. The town's independent shops for local Fife character.
