A little history
Dunblane Cathedral, founded in the 12th century, is one of the best-preserved medieval cathedrals in Scotland. On 13 March 1996, a gunman killed 16 children and their teacher at Dunblane Primary School — the tragedy led directly to the Firearms Act 1997 banning handguns in the UK. Andy Murray was born in Dunblane in 1987.
Dunblane Cathedral is genuinely magnificent — the nave is outstanding and the memorial to the 1996 victims is quietly moving. The Allan Water walk. The town centre has good independent shops. The Leighton Library for the remarkable 17th century book collection.
