A little history
Fleet developed primarily as a commuter town when the railway arrived in 1847. Fleet Pond — a Site of Special Scientific Interest and Local Nature Reserve — is the largest natural freshwater lake in Hampshire, with extraordinary birdlife year-round. The Basingstoke Canal runs through the area.
Fleet Pond is genuinely excellent for birdwatching — reed warblers, great crested grebes and kingfishers all nest here. The Basingstoke Canal towpath for walking and cycling. The town centre has improving independent food.
