A little history
Flint Castle was the first of Edward I's ring of Welsh castles. It was at Flint in 1399 that Richard II, lured from the castle, surrendered to Henry Bolingbroke — the scene that Shakespeare dramatises in Richard II. The Dee estuary views from the castle are extraordinary.
Flint Castle ruins are free and the estuary views are wonderful. The RSPB Burton Mere wetlands for birdwatching. The Dee estuary for walking.
