Known for
J.M. Barrie's birthplace (the creator of Peter Pan was born here), the Camera Obscura (one of the oldest in Scotland), the Thrums heritage, and a small Angus town of literary magic
A little history
J.M. Barrie — creator of Peter Pan — was born at 9 Brechin Road, Kirriemuir in 1860. The town was his 'Thrums' — the inspiration for the fictional setting of his early novels. The Camera Obscura in the town centre is one of the oldest in Scotland. Barrie donated the cricket pavilion to the town.
The J.M. Barrie Birthplace (NTS) is genuinely charming — Peter Pan memorabilia and the story of the boy who never grew up. The Camera Obscura for the oldest optical illusion in Angus. The cricket pavilion Barrie donated.
