The Battle of Largs 1263 (which ended Norse control of Scotland), the Pencil Monument, Nardini's (one of Scotland's most beloved ice cream cafes), the ferry to Millport, and a beautiful Clyde coast resort town
A little history
The Battle of Largs in 1263, where Scots repelled a Norwegian fleet, effectively ended Norse rule in Scotland — leading to the Treaty of Perth (1266) which transferred the Western Isles to Scotland. Nardini's Art Deco cafe, opened in 1935, is one of Scotland's most beloved institutions. The ferry to Millport on Great Cumbrae runs from the town.
Nardini's is genuinely excellent — ice cream and Italian food in a beautiful Art Deco setting. The Pencil Monument for the Battle of Largs story. The Cumbrae ferry for the island day trip.
