Known for
The Annan Valley spa town, the Grey Mare's Tail waterfall (one of Scotland's highest), the Devil's Beef Tub, Moffat toffee, and a small Dumfriesshire spa town of great natural beauty
A little history
Moffat developed as a Victorian spa town on the Annan water. The Grey Mare's Tail — a 60-metre waterfall tumbling from Loch Skeen — is one of Scotland's finest waterfalls. The Devil's Beef Tub, a dramatic natural amphitheatre where Border Reivers hid stolen cattle, is just north of the town.
The Grey Mare's Tail walk is outstanding — the waterfall is spectacular and Loch Skeen above is wild. The Devil's Beef Tub viewpoint. Moffat toffee from the local shop. The spa town architecture on the High Street.
