Moretonhampstead is a historic moorland market town on the north-eastern edge of Dartmoor. The 17th century colonnaded almshouses are one of the finest vernacular buildings on Dartmoor. The town serves as a gateway to the central Dartmoor plateau.
The colonnaded almshouses are beautiful. The B3212 drive west across Dartmoor from here. The town has good independent shops. Grimspound Bronze Age village is a short drive.
