A little history
Nelson was built almost entirely to serve the cotton weaving industry — the town grew explosively in the 19th century around its weaving sheds. Today it has one of Lancashire's most diverse South Asian communities, many descendants of workers who came to staff the mills in the 20th century. Pendle Hill is visible from the town.
