Known for
The shoe-making capital of Britain (Northampton was the world centre of quality shoe manufacturing for 300 years), the Church of the Holy Sepulchre (one of four round Crusader churches in England), the Guildhall, and a Northamptonshire county town of significant industrial heritage
A little history
Northampton was the shoe-making capital of the world — at its peak supplying boots for the armies of the Empire. Crockett & Jones, Tricker's, Church's and many other global brands are still made here. The Church of the Holy Sepulchre, built by returning Crusaders in 1100, is modelled on the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem.
The Church of the Holy Sepulchre is extraordinary — a round church built by Crusaders. The Northampton Museum and Art Gallery's shoe collection is outstanding. The Guildhall is magnificent. The market for local produce.
