Explore Notting Hill
Known for
The Notting Hill Carnival (Europe's largest street festival, held every August Bank Holiday), Portobello Road Market, the Notting Hill Gate independent film culture, and one of London's most vibrant and multicultural neighbourhoods
A little history
Notting Hill was largely developed in the mid-19th century. The area became home to Caribbean immigrants from the late 1950s and the Notting Hill Carnival — inspired by Caribbean traditions — began in 1966. It now attracts over a million people over two days. Portobello Road Market has been an antiques and food market since the 1860s.
The Carnival on August Bank Holiday weekend is genuinely extraordinary — one of the world's great street festivals. Portobello Road on Saturday for the full market experience. The Electric Cinema for the classic film experience. Clarendon Cross for excellent independent food.
