Known for
Richmond Park (the largest park in London, with 600 red and fallow deer), the Thames riverside, Richmond Hill (the only view in England protected by an Act of Parliament), and one of London's most beautiful and complete villages
A little history
Richmond Park — created by Charles I in 1637 — is London's largest park and holds 600 deer. The view from Richmond Hill, looking over the Thames and meadows towards St Paul's, was protected by an Act of Parliament in 1902 — the only such protected view in England. The town has extraordinary Georgian and Victorian architecture.
Richmond Park at dawn for the deer herds — genuinely extraordinary. The view from Richmond Hill at sunset. The Thames towpath to Twickenham. The town centre for excellent independent food.
