Known for
The canal basin (one of the finest Georgian canal junctions in England, built by James Brindley), the River Severn, and a Worcestershire town built entirely by the canal age
A little history
Stourport-on-Severn is unique — the only town in England created by the canal age. When James Brindley connected the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal to the Severn in 1772, a new town grew from nothing. The Georgian canal basin is the finest of its kind in England.
The canal basin is genuinely beautiful — the Georgian warehouses and the boat traffic are outstanding. The River Severn walk. The town for local Worcestershire character.
