Explore Royal Tunbridge Wells
Known for
The Pantiles (the finest Georgian colonnade in southern England), the chalybeate spring (discovered 1606 and still flowing), the phrase 'Disgusted of Tunbridge Wells', Dunorlan Park, and a Kent spa town of extraordinary completeness
A little history
The chalybeate spring discovered in 1606 made Tunbridge Wells the first English spa resort. The Pantiles — laid out in the 17th century — is one of the finest colonnaded walks in southern England. The town was granted Royal status by Edward VII in 1909. 'Disgusted of Tunbridge Wells' became a byword for suburban conservatism.
The Pantiles is genuinely beautiful — the spring still flows. The Pantiles area for excellent independent food. Dunorlan Park. The Chalybeate Spring for a sip of the original spa water.
