The Talyllyn Railway (the world's first preserved railway, saved by volunteers in 1951), St Cadfan's Church (with the oldest inscription in the Welsh language), and a small Cardigan Bay town of railway and linguistic heritage
A little history
The Talyllyn Railway — closed by its owner's death in 1950 — was saved by volunteers in 1951, making it the world's first preserved railway. It runs inland to Nant Gwernol through beautiful Snowdonia scenery. St Cadfan's Stone in the church has the oldest known inscription in the Welsh language (7th century).
The Talyllyn Railway is genuinely excellent and historically significant. St Cadfan's Stone for the oldest Welsh inscription. The beach for Cardigan Bay views. The Cambrian Way cycling.
